Have you ever needed to implement the ability to approve purchase requests using mobile devices such as a cell or tablet? At N.Progression, we’ve been developing solutions for this very. Initially, we created web-based applications for Dynamics AX 2012, and later, we used Low Code technologies on the Power Platform to offer similar functionality for Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management.

Building, maintaining, and adapting these solutions has been a labor-intensive process, requiring substantial time and resources. Fortunately, those challenges are now a thing of the past, as Microsoft has introduced its own mobile app for approving purchase requisitions and purchase orders. The Approval Management mobile app was released with version 10.0.41, which became generally available in mid-September 2024.

I’m confident that approving purchase orders and requisitions is just the beginning—this app is bound to receive regular, valuable updates in the future.

If you haven’t had a chance to check out this mobile app yet, I invite you to watch a live demo we presented during a recent webinar. You can find the recording here: YouTube link. Or, if you prefer, I’ve prepared a brief overview of the app’s key features below.

App Functionality brief overview

The primary users of this app are users responsible for approving purchase requisitions and purchase orders. Previously, they had to navigate through the standard workflow mechanism in the system, which could be inconvenient and often led to delays in the approval process.

Now, users can approve various entities—such as purchase requisitions, requisition lines, purchase orders, and order lines—directly from the mobile app.

On the home screen, users can choose between two types of documents: Purchase Orders and Purchase Requisitions. I’m sure Microsoft will expand this list in future releases. After selecting one, users are presented with a list of approval tasks, complete with due dates.

Users can then drill down into the details of each document or line item. Once they fully understand the context of an approval request, they can select from the available approval options configured in the workflow. The Approval Management mobile app offers the following core features:

  • View requests assigned to you
  • Approve or deny requests
  • Delegate tasks to another approver
  • Request changes from the requester

While the app’s functionality is straightforward, its installation process may require more attention. For detailed installation and configuration instructions, visit Microsoft’s official resource: Installation Guide.
