Did you know that starting with version 10.0.38 and later, a feature is available that allows you to make changes to the bill of materials (BOM) of already created production orders? You can select an unlimited number of production orders to update their BOM specifications. However, the production orders must have a status of Estimated or Scheduled.
The first thing you need to do is mark one, several, or all of the production orders. After that, on the Action Pane, in the Production order tab, in the Change group, select Change BOM item.
In the Change production order BOM item dialog box, on the Parameters FastTab, in the From item section, specify the item that you want to change from. Be sure to include the item's inventory dimensions field groups (at least the Site, otherwise the production order list will not be generated).
Then, in the To item section, specify the item that you want to change to. Include the item's inventory dimensions.
- The "To" item must use the same inventory unit of measure as the "From" item.
- If the new item requires a different quantity, specify the new quantity in the To item quantity field.
- If the To item quantity field is set to 0, the system will use the same quantity as the existing item.
The Production order lines FastTab displays a list of all selected production orders that include the specified "From" item in their BOM. Mark the orders where you want to substitute the "To" item for the "From" item. Then select OK to apply your changes.
When the change is applied, the system will set the quantity of the BOM line for the "From" item to 0 (zero). It will then create a new BOM line with the "To" item and the new quantity, updating the line to show the information for that item.
That’s it – the functionality is quite simple but can be very useful if a BOM item needs to be changed across multiple production orders. Such changes are quite common.
